How to read this tracker

Reporting periods
Weeks run Monday-Sunday in Trinidad & Tobago time. Week 1 is the short opening period, 1-4 January 2026.
What the numbers represent
TriniLulz describes the series as compiled from media reports. It is not an official TTPS series. Individual report citations are not listed in the current article.
Counts and comparisons
A running total adds the weekly counts. A weekly average is not a murder rate per 100,000 people. Cross-year or population-based comparisons require compatible source data.
Missing values and revisions
Unresolved values are labelled as such, never assumed to be zero. The current coverage stops at Week 39. A change to an earlier week needs a source and a dated revision note.

TTPS Crime Division Totals provides official context; it does not verify this weekly media-based series. Corrections and updates policy.

Week 39 Analysis: What Changed?

Week 39 closes with just 2 murders, bringing the year-to-date total to 264 across thirty-nine weeks. This is tied with Weeks 10 and 33 for the lowest weekly tally recorded so far in 2026. It also marks a further decline from the 5 murders recorded in Week 38 and keeps the most recent stretch of the year firmly below the pace seen during much of the first half.

The short-term trend has become increasingly notable. Weeks 36 through 39 recorded 3, 6, 5 and 2 murders, producing just 16 murders over four weeks—an average of 4 per week. Looking back over the most recent eight weeks, the country recorded 37 murders, an average of approximately 4.6 per week. Both figures are substantially below the overall 2026 rate.

With thirty-nine weeks completed, the year-to-date average now stands at approximately 6.8 murders per week. Week 39’s tally of 2 is less than one-third of that average. The last ten weeks have also produced just 45 murders, averaging 4.5 per week, suggesting that the moderation seen since Week 30 is no longer simply the result of one or two unusually low weeks.

The data therefore continues to show a sustained reduction in the weekly murder pace during the latter part of 2026. That does not mean the trend cannot reverse, particularly given the sharp fluctuations recorded earlier in the year, but the current period is now long enough to stand apart from the brief dips seen previously. If weekly totals remain near these levels through October, the second half of 2026 will increasingly represent a materially lower period of lethal violence than the first half of the year.
