The flyer, complete with the words “Monday October 13, 1:30 p.m.” and Finance Minister Davendranath Tancoo’s smiling face, spread through social media faster than a doubles vendor on Independence morning.
Within minutes, Meighoo hit delete and told reporters it was an honest mistake:
“No official announcement has been made. I mistakenly shared someone else’s post.”
But by then, Trinidad’s national news outlet — also known as “your aunty’s WhatsApp group” — had already confirmed it for him.

Party officials scrambled to distance themselves from the leak, while Tancoo went radio-silent. Meanwhile, memes appeared online showing the “Budget 2025” flyer captioned “forwarded many times.”
Kamla Playing Coy
When asked previously, Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar gave reporters her trademark poker face:
“The budget will be soon.”
She explained she’d been “working on it in Washington” and wanted to review the final draft before confirming the date — because what’s governance without a little suspense?
By the time she landed back home, the entire country already had October 13 circled in red on their calendars — even if officially, nobody supposed to know yet.

Only in Trinidad could a national budget leak through a WhatsApp forward and end up as breaking news.
